Barack Obama, George Bush, The Change

I have read so many blogs today that are thanking God we have a new president and change has come. Not one blog has expressed any good sentiment about Mr. George Bush. I am also pleased we have a new president. I am grateful our democratic process works, that we the people have the right to chose who will lead us. I pray the new president leads us well.
I want to be at least one blogger that thanks Mr Bush for his service to this country. Did I agree with all he did? No. Only time will tell us what kind of president he truly was. I was taught not to judge without walking in someone else's shoes. We don't know, what President Bush knew as he made his decisions leading our great nation. Remember the people once elected him too, twice. Our nation has not been attacked since 9/11. Has Mr Bush kept us safe, without us knowing all that he did to keep us safe? Probably. For that I am grateful. The presidency is a difficult job, one I would not want to take on. Have you noticed how each president ages so quickly? President Obama will too. Does this mean I am bashing Obama? No.
I took lunch today with a number of nurses and residents in a nursing home. We sat, all of us white, and tears were in more than a few eyes as we watched the inauguration. Hope is what we talked about, hope is what we crave. Hope that President Obama will also be able to keep us safe, that he will be able to make those hard choices that are going to come his way. Will the American people agree with all he does? No, but we need to give him a chance and the time to let hope come to fruition. Farewell Mr Bush, Welcome President Obama.
Please tell me what you think.

I'm just going to wait and watch before I make any predictions but I have a feeling that the presidency is going to be a bit harder than Obama might have thought.

Rome wasn't built overnight and change isn't going to happen by flipping a switch. Changing people & ideas takes a veryyyyy long time.

People are very hopeful and that builds high expectations. It is going to be difficult to live up to. Not everyone is going to be happy with what he does, or doesn't do. I wonder how long it will take for the bloom to come off the rose? We Americans are not a patient people and that will not work in Obama's favor.
Debra, thanks so much for posting. Would it be alright to link to your post with the quilt top I sent you? It might generate more goodies for your quilt projects. For those who don't know, Debra takes donations of quilts and blocks to make into quilts for homeless teens. I sent a few goodies for her and she is now inspiring me again with the work she is doing on one of the quilt tops I sent her.

Hi Jan,
I am from 'across the pond' as it were.
When Obama first hit OUR screens, I really didn't like the look of him, nothing to do with his colour. I am no way a Racist, never have been, never will be, there are good and bad in all races I feel.
Anyway, he was on our screens so much, I grew to accept him, in my own way.
I will never meet this man, I will never meet our own Prime Minister, but I will watch them both to see what they come up with. They both appear to be promising us the World. It is not theirs to give. They are both promising to save the World...hmm, others have tried before these two. I hope one or other succeeds. God knows we need saving from ourselves.
Bush...I think its best left unsaid what I feel about that man, he made so many stupid remarks, at times I was embarrassed for him. But then, I guess when you are considered to be the most powerful man in the world, it could go to your head a little!!
I think we have to wait and see what these prominent people come up with, it wont be overnight, it wont be next week, month, or possibly year!!
But maybe, just maybe, Obama, being fresh blood will have the right ideas. I truly hope so.

Thanks for commenting Jan (I really like your name LOL). I find it interesting how many people all over the world have watched this election. Even when someone is powerful, they can't save the world, there are too many unknowns and differences of opinions. I have signed up for the White House blog to try to keep up with what is being done. They can't put everything on there but it's nice to actually read the executive orders instead of getting it spoon fed via the sound bits on the news - which can change the whole slant of the message. Which was true with the news coverage of the closing of the Gitmo base. There has been quite a bit of speculation that the people being held there would just be let go. There are actually other orders that address the steps they will take to ensure terrorists aren't just let go to do as they will. I guess that info wouldn't have been as interesting because it wouldn't have as much "shock" appeal.
Mr Bush has been an interesting person to watch. I wonder if he is basically shy, more comfortable with those he knows. He didn't seem to do well with remarks off the cuff so to speak. Maybe I'm just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I just hope the people of the world can unite and get along. It seems a daunting task.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
